Our story begins with the heritage behind our accreditation.
LAI is a modern awarding and assessment organisation, but the standards behind its accreditation are informed by a much longer history.
1878
City & Guilds Is Established
The City and Guilds of London Institute was founded to advance technical education and strengthen the connection between education, skills and the needs of society.
More Than 145 Years of Education and Assessment
City & Guilds developed from its origins in British technical education into an international organisation working across assessment, certification, education and skills.
Its heritage provides an established foundation for City & Guilds’ role as LAI’s accreditation partner.
2024
The Vision for LAI Is Established
LAI was conceived in response to a changing international education landscape.
Schools needed credible international accredited programmes, but they also needed a model that could work around the curriculum, resources and teachers they already trusted.
Early 2025
Accredited Programme Development Begins
LAI began developing its International GCSE, International A Level and International Foundation Programme.
Each accredited programme was designed around clear academic outcomes, rigorous assessment and progression into further study, university and future employment.
17 July 2025
LAI Launches in London
LAI was formally launched at City & Guilds.
The launch introduced LAI’s vision for a modern international awarding and assessment organisation built around academic standards, accessibility and meaningful progression.
2025
City & Guilds Accreditation
LAI established its accreditation relationship with City & Guilds.
LAI programmes are accredited by City & Guilds, bringing independent external review and the strength of more than 145 years of experience in education, assessment and skills.
LAI gives the awards. City & Guilds accredits the programmes.
2025
The First LAI Accredited Programmes Are Introduced
LAI introduced its first portfolio of International GCSE and International A Level subjects, alongside the International Foundation Programme.
Together, they create a connected route from secondary education to advanced study and university preparation.
2025
Nexus Is Introduced
Nexus was introduced as LAI’s Educational Intelligence layer.
It connects a school’s existing curriculum and teaching with LAI outcomes, learner readiness, assessment and progression.
LAI is the institution. Nexus is how it works.
2026
Recognition and Equivalence Development
LAI expanded its engagement with education authorities, universities and recognition bodies.
Recognition is presented by country and institution, supported by evidence rather than broad or unqualified claims.
2026
Pakistan Equivalence Milestone
Relevant LAI accredited programme routes achieved an important equivalence milestone in Pakistan through the applicable national arrangements.
Schools and learners receive guidance on subject combinations, documentation and the requirements for individual equivalence applications.
2026
UCAS Listing Milestone
The LAI International Foundation Programme was accepted for listing through UCAS.
The listing makes information about the programme available within the UK higher-education admissions environment and supports engagement with receiving institutions.
2026
International School Network Develops
LAI began welcoming schools and colleges across international markets.
Approved centres join a standards community built around academic delivery, assessment integrity, learner welfare and continuing quality assurance.
2026
University Engagement Expands
LAI increased direct engagement with universities to support accredited programme understanding, recognition decisions and documented learner-progression routes.
Named progression arrangements are published as they are formally agreed.
The Future
One Standard, Across More Schools
LAI will continue expanding its accredited programmes, approved-centre network, university engagement and recognition evidence.
The ambition is straightforward: to build an awarding and assessment organisation trusted for the standards it holds and the progress its learners make.
